Edit the sections of your website

What each section of the home page is for, how to reorder, hide and rewrite them, and why an empty section never shows.

Your home page is a list of sections. You do not design it: you decide which sections show, in what order, and what they say.

The sections

  • Hero. The club's name, one line about it and the way in. A photograph makes the site open with a picture.
  • About. Your own words. Until you write some, the site says what it knows: where you meet, who runs the club and how many members you have, and only when there are at least two.
  • Officers. Chosen from the people on your Settings page marked as listed. Nothing to type here.
  • Joining and membership levels. Your levels and prices, from the Dues page, with your joining text.
  • Events. The next events you have published.
  • Newsletter archive. The newest issues you have sent.
  • Gallery. Photographs you have added to the gallery.
  • Documents. Links to a constitution, minutes or a membership form that live elsewhere. Write each as: Label | web address, up to eight.
  • Contact. Where to write and where you meet, from your club details, with room for your own words.
  • Text section. A heading and some words of your own. You can add as many as you like.

Change the page

On the Sections card, each section has Up and Down buttons, Hide or Show, and a form for its words. Press Save this section after editing. Add a text section and Add a documents section make more of those two kinds. Everything is a plain form, so it works without scripts.

Text accepts a little Markdown: headings, bold, lists and links.

Empty sections never show

A section with nothing to show is left out of the page, so visitors never see an empty box. The editor says "Nothing to show yet" so you know why. The same is true of the navigation: the Events, News and Directory pages only appear when they have something on them.

Hiding is not removing

You can hide any section. Only text and documents sections can be removed, because the others are built from your records.

Where the facts come from

Prices come from your levels, officers from Settings, events from the Events page. To change one, change it there. See add events to your calendar and officers on your website.
