Preview your site before you publish

How to see the draft website yourself and how to send a private link to your committee that nobody else can find.

Before the club's website is public you will want your committee to look at it. There are two ways.

For you: the preview tab

On Site, press Preview in a new tab. You see the site exactly as visitors will, and it is what publishing will serve, page for page. It works only while you are signed in as an officer.

On the website step of the guided setup you will find a card called Show the committee before you publish. Press Make a private link. You get an address that anyone can open without signing in, for as long as the link lasts. Send it to your committee.

The link:

  • is made of a long random string. Only a one-way scrambled copy is kept, so the address is shown to you once, on that page,
  • works for 30 days, or until you make a new one. Make a new link replaces the old link, which stops working at once,
  • is marked so that search engines ignore it, is not stored by browsers, and sets no cookies,
  • shows the club's draft website and its pages, but nothing from the workspace.

If someone opens an expired or unknown link, they see the same "page not found" any other missing page shows. It does not name your club.

After you publish

A private link is only for the draft. When the site is published, Clubroll revokes the club's preview links by itself, since the real site is public. Expired links are tidied away.

Tips

Send the link in a message to the committee rather than posting it anywhere public. Anyone who has it can see the draft until it expires.
