Undo an import

How to take back an import within 30 days, what is put back exactly, and the few members it leaves alone.

Every import can be undone for 30 days. You can find it under Recent imports on the import page, or on the report you saw straight after importing.

What undo does

  • Members the import added are removed.
  • Members the import changed are put back exactly as they were before, column for column.
  • Everything is written to the audit log with your name.

After 30 days the button is refused and says on what date it expired. At that point the names, emails and earlier states that undo needed are deleted, which is why the window ends.

What undo leaves alone

Undo is careful not to damage anything that happened since. It does not touch a member, and tells you who and why, when:

  • they were edited after the import,
  • a later import changed them (undo the later one first),
  • they have a login,
  • they have a payment recorded against their dues,
  • or a newsletter has been sent to them.

It never switches an opt-out on

If a member is out of the newsletter now, they stay out, whatever state they were in before the import. Undo never re-subscribes anyone.

Before you undo

If you only want to fix a few members, it is quicker to edit them on the roll. If the whole file was wrong (the wrong year's list, say), undo and import the right one. Importing the same file twice is harmless: people already on the roll are updated, not duplicated.

What it does not do

Undo does not unsend anything. A newsletter that already went to an imported member stays sent, and that is why such members are left alone.
