Send yourself a test email

How the test send works, why it only ever goes to you, and what to look at when it arrives.

A test is the real message, sent to one person: you. It is the safest way to see what members will see, because you see it in your own inbox, on your own phone.

How to send one

On the composer, press Send a test to followed by your address. A test:

  • goes only to the address you are signed in with. There is no way to name another address, so a test cannot reach a member by mistake,
  • looks exactly like the real message, built from the same blocks, and has "[Test]" at the start of the subject,
  • does not count as sending the issue, and does not appear in the issue's send log. It is recorded in your own mail log,
  • works while your club is still in setup.

The guided setup has the same thing as its fifth step, A first message: a test newsletter sent to your own address.

What to check

Open it on your phone and on a computer. Look at the pictures, the buttons and the links. The footer holds your club's postal address and an unsubscribe link, which in a test names nobody. If something is wrong, go back to the draft: nothing has been sent to members.

If it does not arrive

  • Look in your spam folder.
  • Read the message on the composer: it says whether the test was sent, held or refused.
  • While Clubroll's email is in its restricted mode, mail goes only to a few approved addresses, and your test may be held. The page says so in plain words. See why you cannot publish or email yet.
  • If your own address has hard-bounced or reported a message as spam in the past, Clubroll will not mail it. See email health.

Then send it

When it looks right, go back to send your first newsletter.
